Deep breathing has so many benefits…

Reduces stress

When you are stressed, you breathe in short, shallow bursts.

To relax you do the opposite by breathing deeply and slowly.

Releases Endorphins- The body’s natural painkillers into the bloodstream.

This can help relieve headaches, sleeplessness, backaches and other tension based pains.

Decreases the secretion of Cortisol which is released in response to stress

Less cravings

Increased thyroid  function

Decreases abdominal fat

Enhances the  immune system

Always make sure you are aware of your Breathing when you Exercise.

Strengthens weak abdominal and intestinal muscles

Boosts Endurance and Energy Levels

The Sneaky Breathing Challenge:

1.  Find a quiet area where you won’t be disturbed.

2.  Take a deep breath in through your nose, and out through your mouth.  Each time you breathe in and out you count it as one.  Do these until you count to 100.

3.  It only takes 2 to 4 mins to take 100 breaths.  Set aside a few minutes every day do this breathing technique for one week.

    Hi aj~
Thanks for the reminder. It’s easy to get so busy during the day that we actually forget to stop and breath deeply. These simple steps are quick and easy.
I’m breathing deeper as I type this.  =)

Good letter and so true. I know exactly what you mean by getting caught up in your daily routine and not making time for yourself. I need to workout first thing in the morning, otherwise it'll never happen. Yesterday was an example of that. Also being a working mother its tough to find time for yourself.  Yesterday, I got so caught up in what I was doing, I hardly ate anything all day. . That doesn't happen very often, but it was a reminder of how you need to put aside time for yourself because, really, in the scheme of things – you come first!  AJ thanks for posting this, I really need it in my life and will do this for one week like you asked.  I'll do Anything to reduce my stress and anxiety without taking pills!  See you at the gym. ;)

    Hi AJ
Just found your blog through the Chris McCombs  interview.
Its great to know there are some trainers in Long Island  that are focused on improving the industry standards.
Along those lines I would like to enquire if you offer any professional placement or work experience oppurtunities for Sport Science/Nutrition undergraduates. I am currently in my 4th year and would be very grateful if I might be able to come and see you at work.
Thank for your time and consideration and keep up the informative posts, they are helpful regardless of whether one is overseas or in NY
